This is a foundational self-paced program exploring the Model of Practice—five key domains that deepen scribing by integrating awareness, connection, and creative synthesis in real-time visual work.

  • This self-paced, foundational program explores the five domains of the Model of Practice, a framework that deepens visual practice by integrating awareness, connection, and creative synthesis. You’ll learn to navigate the core elements of scribing—Being, Joining, Perceiving, Knowing, and Drawing—and apply them in real-world settings.

As scribing evolves across hybrid and digital spaces, this program offers a stable foundation for adapting to change while staying grounded in essential principles. With approximately 16 hours of content, you can engage with readings, videos, and reflective exercises at your own pace.

  • The program is organized around five key domains:

    • Being – Grounding in authenticity to engage meaningfully.

    • Joining – Attuning to shared dynamics and participation.

    • Perceiving – Cultivating awareness to identify gaps and opportunities.

    • Knowing – Trusting intuition and aligning with emerging possibilities.

    • Drawing – Expressing insights through visual synthesis.

While each domain is explored individually with related frameworks, they function as a cohesive system in practice. All content is provided upfront, and you can complete modules in any order. Additional resources include recorded practice sessions with guest speakers, a glossary, and recommended readings from Generative Scribing.

  • Developed by Kelvy Bird, Jayce Pei Yu Lee, and Reilly Dow, this program builds on the Visual Practice Workshops (2012–2019), originally designed with Alfredo Carlo, to refine the art of scribing through the Model of Practice framework.

Now hosted by Kelvy and Reilly, this self-paced version features conversations with international guests about facilitation, social arts, and awareness-based practices, offering insights into real-world applications, and providing opportunity for deep practice.

  • No prior drawing experience is needed! To participate, have a journal or notebook for reflection and use any drawing materials you have on hand—paper, markers, pastels, or a digital tablet with a stylus. Water-based markers are recommended to prevent ink bleed-through. If space allows, consider working on a large surface to expand your range of expression. Documenting your work with a camera or smartphone can help track progress and refine your practice.

  • All content is available immediately upon registration, with no limit for completion. To make the most of the program:

    • Schedule time to follow the self-paced modules.

    • Start with basic supplies, expanding as needed.

    • Engage with recorded practice sessions and expert insights.

    • Use the Questions area for inquiries and faculty feedback.

    • Share reflections in the Gallery to contribute to the collective learning experience.
